Queen Elizabeth and her only daughter, Princess Anne, had a tight-knit relationship throughout the late monarch's life.

Princess Anne is often described as the Queen’s most like-minded child, known for her no-nonsense attitude, dry humor and unwavering commitment to her responsibilities. She remains one of the busiest royals, attending over 500 events in 2018 alone.

The two also shared a lifelong love of horses. While the Queen was deeply involved in breeding and racing, Anne became an accomplished equestrian in her own right, even competing in the Olympic Games in 1976.

Princess Anne was by her mother's side when she died on Sept. 8, 2022, at age 96. She then oversaw the transportation of Queen Elizabeth's coffin from Scotland to London.

“I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life. It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys," she wrote in a statement. "Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting."
