Jane Austen only completed six novels during her lifetime. Four were published while she was alive, and two were published posthumously. Yet, 250 years later, we canāt stop adapting those same six stories over and over and over again. Some creators stick to the original text as faithfully as possible. Others simply draw on the stories for inspiration, crafting spinoffs about supporting characters or modernizing the romances for contemporary settings.
Austen was born on December 16, 1775, and throughout most of 2025, her devoted fan base (and there are many of them, who usually refer to themselves as āJaneitesā) have been celebrating with their own birthday parties for her. Many have made pilgrimages to Austenās childhood home in Hampshire as well as other sites from her life and her novels. Museums and libraries have held special events spotlighting original editions of her books. There has even been a special auction of her rarest possessions, fetching hundreds of thousands of dollars.
But even though Austen's big day is being celebrated throughout 2025, itās really 2026 that appears to be her year. While a few Austen-dedicated series and films were released this year (Hello, Miss Austen, which was really about her sister, Cassandra), Hollywood appears to be returning to the classics next year.
Hereās a guide to all of the Jane Austen content coming in 2026.
The Other Bennet Sister
Mary Bennet (Ella Bruccoleri) finally gets the spotlight in The Other Bennet Sister. Britbox
Release Date: Spring TBD
Where to Find It: Britbox
This one of those that isnāt a direct adaptation but rather a spinoff. We all know about Elizabeth Bennet. You know her beloved older sister Jane, who marries Mr. Bingley. Of course, there's the wild sister, Lydia, and her closest sibling, Kitty. That would leave the fifth sister: Mary. But not she's not all that contrary, at least not in the telling of Janice Hadlow's The Other Bennet Sister. This 10-episode series stars Ella Bruccoleri as Mary Bennet as the ultimate middle child, following her as she tries to find her place in the world as a spinster (only in her 20s, perish the thought). But much to her sistersā surprise, Mary eventually finds herself at the center of a love triangle herself. The series also stars several veteran actors, including Richard E. Grant, Ruth Jones, and Indira Varma.
Sense and Sensibility

Release Date: September 11, 2026
Where to Find It: Movie theaters
The story of three sisters and their widowed mother was last remade for the silver screen by director Ang Lee in 1995, starring Emma Thompson (who won an Academy Award for writing the adapted screenplay) and Kate Winslet as the elder two Dashwood sisters. Itās hard to imagine anyone topping this version, or at least anyone else in the role of Colonel Brandon other than the late Alan Rickman. But Focus Features appears determined to try. The new film was first announced in June with Normal Peopleās Daisy Edgar-Jones cast as Elinor and EsmĆ© Creed-Miles from Amazon Primeās Hanna as Marianne. Outlanderās CaitrĆona Balfe will star as the Dashwood matriarch, while George MacKay from 1917 will play Elinorās love interest, Edward Ferrars. The Hollywood Reporter also notes the September release date also falls directly in the middle of festival season, hinting Focus Features could be positioning this one as an awards season darling.
Pride and Prejudice
The five Bennet sisters and their mother in Netflixās new version of Pride and Prejudice. Ludovic Robert
Release Date: TBD
Where to Find It: Netflix
Most Pride and Prejudice fans fall into two camps. They either prefer the 1995 BBC miniseries version starring Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy or the 2005 film with Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet. Get ready for a new entry into the ring. Netflix is producing a six-part miniseries starring The Crownās Emma Corrin as Lizzie and Jack Lowden from Slow Horses as Darcy, with Olivia Colman as the Bennet sistersā famously eccentric mother. The Diplomatās Rufus Sewell will balance out the cast as the Bennet family patriarch, and Killing Eveās Fiona Shaw is a sublime casting choice for the formidable Lady Catherine de Bourg.
Clueless

Release Date: TBD
Where to Find It: Peacock
The matchmaker romance Emma was given the remake treatment in 2020. But its most famous modern adaptation, Amy Heckerlingās teen drama Clueless, is now also getting a reboot. Alicia Silverstone confirmed that she would be reprising her role as Cher Horowitz for the TV series, which will be written and produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the husband-and-wife team who co-created The OC and developed the original Gossip Girl series. There have been numerous reboots of Clueless since the film, including another short-lived TV show in the 1990s and a musical that is still running in London. But little else is known about the current reboot in pre-production.
