Joe Amabile is on the road to recovery.
The Bachelor alum — who is widely known to fans as “Grocery Store Joe” — has gone home to recover after undergoing brain surgery for an early-stage glioma. His wife, Serena Pitt, shared the update through a carousel of pictures from his health journey posted to Instagram on Aug. 10.
“A few peaceful moments from the hospital 🤍,” Pitt, 28, captioned the carousel, which began with a photo of her and Amabile, 40, walking away from the NYU Langone Health campus with their hands clasped. “Incredibly grateful to the team at NYU Langone Health for their endless patience, care, compassion, and kindness these past few days. Joe is home recovering, and we’re so grateful to have been in such good hands,” she wrote.
The surgery was successful, as Pitt previously shared that doctors “were able to remove the entire tumor and Joe is recovering very well.”
The couple previously shared that the tumor was discovered after Amabile underwent a full-body MRI scan with Prenuvo. Following the scan, “I had to go get a brain MRI, and there was a blueberry-sized lesion in my brain that looks to be a glioma, which is a tumor,” he shared to social media on July 13. “So I now need to get brain surgery [in two weeks] to get it removed and get it tested, and then we’re gonna go from there,” he said at the time. “So it’s been a wild couple weeks. Definitely wasn’t expecting this.”

But Pitt shared on the July 16 episode of their podcast, Not Married to This, “They said a few days in the hospital, a few weeks out, and then you’ll be back and better than every, baby … We hope that you guys take away from this to advocate for yourself, ask questions. You know, health is never something to mess around with.”

Going into the surgery, Amabile said he was maintaining “a positive mindset and keeping my stress levels low,” calling it “the best thing I could do for my health in this current moment.”
“I am staying positive,” he said. “I think it’s great that we caught this early.”
