The Boston Celtics will have more than one member of their frontcourt taking part in FIBA World Cup qualifying play in the month of August, according to recent reporting from Eurohoops contributor Johnny Askounis. Per Eurohoops, two way Celtics big man Amari Williams will be suiting up for the British National Team in EuroBasket pre-qualifying play.
Great Britain Basketball, looking to return to the world cup after their elimination from the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, confirmed the Celtics center will be part of the senior national team, his first such honor. Williams will also have fellow NBAer (and Maine Celtics alumnus) Tosan Evbuomwan on that squad, per Eurohoops.
"When I realized this summer I would have the opportunity to join the program I was very excited," said the University of Kentucky alum of his inclusion with the British National Team.
"I’ve wanted to be involved throughout that time, but the timing has never fallen right to allow that to happen until now," added the Celtic center.
"I’ve got a lot of close friends on the roster so I’m excited to reconnect with them and compete for our country together."
