A divorced woman in Texas decided to give her wedding dress a second chance 20 years later, leading to an incredible surprise for one bride-to-be

Amy Nittler had kept the satin dress tucked away in a closet for two decades

Knowing that planning a wedding can be stressful and expensive, she thought, "Why not give somebody this"

Serendipity brought together two strangers in Texas in a very special way.

Divorced woman Amy Nittler had kept her satin wedding dress tucked away in a closet for 20 years. Then, she recently had the idea to give the dress a second life, per ABC affiliate KRGV.

"I know that planning a wedding can be stressful and very expensive, so why not give somebody this," she told the outlet.

Meanwhile, bride-to-be Sara Villareal was having a frustrating experience trying to find a dress for her upcoming wedding. She had spent six months searching for the perfect gown within her budget, combing through thrift stores and looking all over online.

Villareal even considered making her own wedding dress.

And then, on Friday, Dec. 12, she came across a Facebook post from Nittler offering up her dress. She reached out to the woman and was told it was all hers.

At first, Villareal was in disbelief, she told KRGV.

"I didn't think it was real. I thought it was a scam," she said. "Because it looks so nice, and then she [Nittler] said that it had everything already, the veil and all, so everything in one stop. That makes it perfect because now I just got to worry about shoes."

Villareal said she's "ecstatic" to wear Nittler's dress. "I still can't believe it's true," she told the outlet. "I was mesmerized by the dress."

Sharing that she is a mom to four little girls, Villareal noted that now she "doesn't have to worry about the cost" of her wedding dress.

She and Nittler had a chance to meet in person, and the two women, now forever connected by the dress, shared a touching hug.

Recalling the day she found the bridal gown — which features pink ribbon lacing in the back — all those years ago, Nittler said, "We went to a lot of places downtown, and they were too fancy for me, so when I found this one, I knew it was right. And it fit perfectly. I didn't need to have any alterations, so that's why I chose this one."

Villareal plans to celebrate her wedding next year — and just like Nittler's nuptials, it will be an outdoor event.
