Justin Cooper said his fame after Liar Liar made it hard to go out in public without being approached
Cooper shared that fans would line up at his dinner table for autographs, which frustrated his family
He revealed his mom shielded him from overwhelming moments, including prison fan mail he received as a child
The child actor who starred in the 1997 film Liar Liar says it was difficult for him to go anywhere in public once the film hit theaters, due to its popularity.
Justin Cooper starred as Max Reede in the film, the son of divorced lawyer Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey), a pathological liar who is cursed to tell the truth for a day.
Speaking on a new episode of the The Not So Little Rascals podcast, Cooper, 37, said of his childhood fame, āThatās when I realized it was big was after [Liar Liar] came out and, you know, I couldnāt really go anywhere in public.ā

Cooper, who was 8 at the time the film came out, said he thought fame was ācoolā but acknowledged āit probably annoyed my familya little bit more.ā
When he and his family would go to dinner, Cooper said, āthere would just be a line at my table of people wanting to get my autograph.ā
āAnd, you know, my family is like trying to eat dinner,ā Cooper added.

Asked if he recalled moments where the fame āfelt overwhelming or kind of scary,ā Cooper responded, āMy mom did a really good job of kind of like shielding me from from stuff, you know, like she would tell me later on about prison mail that I would get that she never showed me.ā

Asked to elaborate, Cooper said he would receive āletters from people in jail talking about ā dudes in jail ā talking about how theyāre big fans of me or how Iām such a cute kid.ā
Elsewhere in the interview, Cooper said he stepped away from acting in high school after he began to grow disappointed when he got auditions.
āWe got to sit in the car for 45, 50 minutes to get out there, and then I gotta like do this, and then I gotta go home and start my homework, and I want to just go home right now and talk to girls on AIM,ā he said with a laugh.
He now works behind the scenes, in production at sports broadcasting.
