The Penguin Season 2 remains one of the most anticipated follow-ups in HBO's growing Batman universe. While the acclaimed crime drama has yet to receive an official renewal, series star Colin Farrell has made it clear that he is open to returning as Oz Cobb. However, the actor said any future installment would need to meet one important condition before he agrees to return to Gotham's criminal underworld.

Colin Farrell has set one condition for returning in potential The Penguin Season 2

During an appearance at the Season 2 premiere of his Apple TV+ series Sugar in Los Angeles, Colin Farrell addressed speculation surrounding The Penguin Season 2. The actor said he believes there is still room to expand Oz Cobb's story. However, he added that it should only happen if the creative team can provide a compelling reason to continue.

Farrell explained to the People that the first season established an exceptionally high standard, making any continuation a significant challenge. Rather than rushing into another chapter, he wants the writers and producers to ensure that a second season can match or surpass the quality that made the original such a critical success.

While Farrell acknowledged the potential for additional seasons, he stressed that the project would need a strong narrative foundation. "Could we justify a second or a third season when the first season was as strong as it was?," he said.

Currently, Matt Reeves' Batman universe is largely focused on the upcoming sequel to The Batman. Farrell confirmed that the creative team is prioritizing that project. He suggested that meaningful conversations about future seasons may begin once work on the next Batman film is complete. Even then, Farrell said any continuation would need to justify its existence creatively.

He also praised showrunner Lauren LeFranc and her team for delivering what he described as an "extraordinary" first season.

The first season followed Oz Cobb's rise through Gotham City's criminal hierarchy as he fought rivals for control of the city's underworld. The gritty crime drama received widespread praise from critics and viewers.
