Homer Gere reveals Kaia Gerber’s two-word reaction when he brought up their parents’ past marriage

In a new joint cover, Homer Gere reflected on the first time he met Kaia Gerber.

Homer and Kaia are currently starring in FX’s The Shards.

Their parents, Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford, were married decades before Homer and Kaia worked together.

Homer Gere and Kaia Gerber addressed the elephant in the room pretty quickly after they first met.

“Twenty minutes into knowing each other, I was like, ‘Should we just acknowledge the fact that our parents were married?’” Homer said in his and Kaia’s Vogueprofile, published on Aug. 11. “She was like, ‘Yeah. Cool.’ And that was it.”

Homer and Kaia are currently starring in Ryan Murphy’s TV adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis book’ The Shards, but more than three decades ago his dad, Richard Gere, and her mom, Cindy Crawford, were married from 1991 to 1995. Cindy later wed Rande Gerber in 1998, with whom she shares Kaia and son Presley. Richard, meanwhile, welcomed Homer with ex-wife Carey Lowell, whom he was married to from 2002 to 2016. (The Pretty Woman star is currently married to Alejandra Silva and they share two sons.)

Homer and Kaia have been fielding questions about their parents’ past since The Shards press tour started earlier this month. The model previously offered her account of meeting Homer for the first time during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“I’d actually never met Homer until we started filming the show. I met him about a week before we started. But it was so nice,” Kaia said at the time. “Honestly, he’s such a joy to work with and such a lovely person. He grew up East Coast, I grew up West Coast, but we’ve just gotten so close, and I couldn’t have picked a better scene partner, honestly.”

Kaia said that she was “excited” to meet Homer, acknowledging that it’s “such a small world” that they were cast in the same project.

Homer told E! Newsthat “it’s funny” how fast he and Kaia “became friends” despite their parents’ history.

“From the inside, it’s really normal,” he explained. “We just became friends as coworkers before we started working and she’s become a really close friend. It’s been lovely working with her.”

The Shards marked Homer’s first major acting role, and the budding star got some advice from his dad before taking on Robert Mallory.

“Most of the advice I got from my dad was how to carry yourself on set and how to make the job kind of work for you,” Homer, who appeared on Euphoria, said during an appearance on Good Morning America last week.

New episodes of The Shards premiere via FX and Hulu on Wednesday, and are available to stream on Disney+ the next day.
