Ivanka Trump tapped a fashion designer who once dressed Rihanna for the Met Ball as she attended last week’s state dinner.
On Thursday, Ivanka, 44, was spotted at White House dinner held with China’s President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan. Also in attendance was Arabella Kushner, Ivanka’s daughter with Jared Kushner. Ivanka tapped Chinese designer Guo Pei, who designed Rihanna’s eye-catching yellow dress at the 2015 Met Ball, for a custom outfit for the night. Ivanka’s ensemble included a light blue dress with a matching jacket. Both garments were embroidered with delicate white patterns and paired with Jimmy Choo pumps.
Rihanna’s dress boasted a stunning yellow train and was also complete with intricate embroidered designs. This comes after Ivanka dined with Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

In 2015, Rihanna described herself as being “in love” with the dress and its “insane” train.

“I can’t really walk in it without any help, but it’s so worth it. I love this dress so much! It’s Chinese couture, and it’s made by Guo Pei. It’s handmade by one Chinese woman, and it took her two years to make. I found it online,” she told Vanity Fair.
Pei is no stranger to a long-term project. A dress that appeared in New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art was a 50,000-hour effort.
In 2015, Pei spoke on the Met Ball’s theme, “China Through the Looking Glass,” saying that she hoped that people “can see China from many different angles.”
“The impression China gives to the world today is a rapidly developing economy, cheap labor, and fast production. But China has 5,000 years of history and is very diverse,” she continued.
“Arrival Ceremony and Rose Garden Military Review for President Xi Jinping President of the People’s Republic of China, & Madame Peng Liyuan,” wrote Ivanka on Instagram in the wake of Thursday’s dinner.
She began the carousel of content with a photo of the exterior of the White House. She also shared a photo of herself and Arabella. The fifteen-year-old wore a white collared dress by London-based label Self-Portrait. Ivanka also included pictures of herself and Arabella standing alongside Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance. Both Ivanka and Arabella posed throughout the White House, shown in several photos. The First Daughter also featured a shot of President Trump, First Lady Melania, President Xi Jinping, and Madame Peng Liyuan with both the US and Chinese flags displayed above.
The state dinner boasted an impressive number of high-profile attendees, including tech giants Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk and Tim Cook.
