Jenna Johnson made a shady comment about her and Harry Shum Jr.’s scores so far on Dancing With the Stars.
After scoring a total of 18 points last week, the duo brought the heat to the dance floor with a jive for “Yacht Rock Night.”
Dancing With the Stars airs live on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+.
Jenna Johnson wasn’t dancing around a shady comment about Harry Shum Jr.’s experience.
After receiving a 6 from each judge last week on Dancing With the Stars, Johnson noted how they moved down the list with their scores compared to their other competitors. She and the Grey’s Anatomyactor were ready to bring the heat to “Yacht Rock” Week.”
“I’m just going to say it out loud. That frame was immaculate but we went down in scores,” Johnson said of their “Viral Hits Night” week 2 dance. “I don’t want your hard work and effort overlooked because you have some dance experience, because that’s not fair,” Johnson said.
“I understand,” the actor agreed. “The only thing we can do is keep working hard.” Shum Jr. started his career as a dancer before he ventured into acting, and is also known for his role on Gleeas Mike Chang.
Johnson also noted that high energy is key while dancing the jive. “The judges aren’t going to let anything slide.”

In a confessional, Shum Jr. explained what made this type of dancing particularly hard.
“The frustration comes from the speed because when I don’t know what I’m hitting, it feels like a disconnect. But I’m really determined to show the judges the work that we’ve put into it and what I’m capable of.”
On Tuesday night, Shum Jr. and Johnson took the dance floor in coordinated suspenders, tailored shirts, and fedoras for a lively jive to “You Make My Dreams Come True” by Daryl Hall & John Oates.

Bruno Tonioli gushed that Johnson and Shum Jr. are headed to Broadway after their performance. Their “theatrical” dance had “lots of elements of Fosse here and there, and On The Town,” the judge explained, referring to Bob Fosse and a classic musical. He also noted that they had the style and balance right.
Carrie Ann Inaba praised how in sync Shum Jr. and Johnson were with each other. “That was a hard jive if it was slow,” she said, acknowledging the skill set and speed involved.

Derek Hough called their routine a “proper jive.” He also shouted out Johnson’s range of skills. “You’re a Swiss Army Knife — you can do it all.”
“And Harry: the athleticism. The kicks, the flips, that was a proper jive,” Hough added, concluding that the dance was a statement — and so is Shum Jr.’s mustache.”
When asked how Shum Jr. was coping with the long days of balancing filming Dancing With the Stars while also shooting Grey’s Anatomy, he thanked the respective shows for helping him work on both. He also mentioned that he worked as a child in the family business while balancing school, so this wasn’t his first rodeo.

As for their scores? Inaba, Hough, and Tonioli gave them an 8 all around — a happy improvement from last week.
