Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa performed a salsa to “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” by Daryl Hall & John Oates during Dancing with the Stars’ “Yacht Rock Night” on Tuesday, Sept. 29

Ahead of the performance, the Save the Last Dance actress revealed she popped one of her ribs

Stiles’ explanation comes as eagle-eyed fans on social media noticed the pair hadn’t posted all week

Julia Stiles explained why she and her partner, Ezra Sosa, kept it quiet on social media ahead of week 3 of Dancing with the Stars.

Before their dance to “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)” by Daryl Hall & John Oates, the Save the Last Dance star, 45, discussed their week 2 performance in rehearsal with Sosa. During the conversation, Stiles told Sosa she was disappointed in her dance last week. She broke down in tears, saying, “It’s all fun and games until you get a 5,” adding that she respects the judges’ opinions a lot. “So yeah, here I am in tears on TV, sorry.”

Ezra assured Stiles that he’s so proud of her. “I’m so proud of you to be able to open up the way that you are,” the pro dancer said.

As they practiced their salsa, Julia revealed that she hurt her rib. “My rib really hurts and we kind of popped it,” she explained. “This is a really tough week to hurt your rib because there’s lifts and tricks.” But she added that she’s “a tough cookie” and she’s not going to let it stop her.

After their performance, Stiles told co-host Julianne Hough, “I was on the struggle bus last week, but I got off it and [Ezra] pulled me off it, I finally found the fun in it again.”

Stiles also pointed out how quiet she’s been on social media. “I know we were kind of quiet last week, but that’s because we were really focused and I wanted to work hard.”

During the week leading up to Tuesday’s DWTS episode, fans noticed that Stiles and Sosa didn’t post anything on their own social media pages, though their dance was teased on the show’s official Instagram page.

Eventually, Stiles shared a snap of herself to Instagram on Monday, Sept. 28, wearing a bucket hat that read, “Meet me on the dance floor.” She captioned the snap: “in case you were wondering

Two weeks prior, Stiles and Sosa performed a quickstep to Dolly Parton’s hit “9 to 5.” This resulted in an apology from Andy Cohen, who once said Stiles was “not the greatest dancer on the planet” on his SiriusXM show last year.

“Julia, I am so sorry. I am the last person who should be giving anyone feedback on their dancing,” Cohen said on Watch What Happens Live. “Great job, Julia Stiles. You killed it tonight. You did amazing tonight. I know you’re going to have a great run. And this diva gives all of you permission to flood my inbox with the 10 things you hate about me.”

Speaking with PEOPLE after “Viral Hits Night” on Tuesday, Sept. 22, Stiles revealed how DWTS has helped her rediscover her relationship with performing.

“Throughout my career, I’ve been a very private person,” she said. “I went to college, I knew that I wanted to have kids and raise a family, and I didn’t really chase the spotlight the way I think people expected. So coming on the show is a really big deal to me. Like, I am a performer. I do love performing, but it’s taken a bit to get me [here].”

“My whole point in coming on the show is to find the confidence in performing again, and Ezra’s really helped pull me out of my shell,” Stiles continued. “But it’s not easy. And so, no matter what, I just wanna keep letting people in. I wanna keep trying. I wanna get better and better.”

Dancing with the Stars airs live on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+, and it streams the next day on Hulu.
