More Than 500,000 Theragun Chargers Recalled Due to Risk of Catching Fire

Therabody has recalled more than 500,000 Theragun Pro devices after reports that the device’s charger has been burning, smoking and in some instances catching fire

A popular self-care product is facing a major recall.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on July 31 that more than 500,000 chargers for Theragun hand-held massagers were being recalled after the manufacturer, Therabody, received reports claiming the cradle for the devices overheated, showed visible smoke and even caught fire.
According to a release from the FDA, 584,224 chargers sold with some fourth-generation Theragun Pro devices have been recalled.
Officials wrote that the charging cradle for the device “may overheat while charging the device’s removable battery pack, presenting risk of thermal event (fire).”

While charging, the product has allegedly caught fire, with some users seeing visible smoke, melting, charger burn, smelling a burning odor and witnessing overheating.
The FDA placed the action in its Class II recall category, meaning this is “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” according to the agency.
The impacted products, which were manufactured until 2022, include the SKU numbers G4-PRO-PKG-NA, G4 PRO US, and PRO-CHARGER-SINGLE. Affected units also are identified by the codes UDI-DI 00810036050135 and GTIN 810036051378.

All distributors, retailers, and resellers that carry the impacted Theragun G4 Pros in the US and Canada were instructed to stop selling the charger. The retailers were also instructed to “not return [the] product to consumers or dispose of inventory.”
Therabody did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on the recall.
According to the company’s website, the massagers are meant to deliver “quiet, deep muscle therapy to reduce soreness, release stress and ease discomfort.”
The devices feature four customizable settings, and are meant to offer “professional-grade relief for fast recovery.”
Therabody products are popular among celebrities and athletes. The company’s massagers come in a variety of other models, including minis, full-body, heated, face masks and more.
