- Musician G. Love said he lost the equivalent of about $420,000 in cryptocurrency after downloading a malicious app.
- X's ZachXBT, who describes themself as a "scam survivor turned 2D investigator," traced the cryptocurrency to company KuCoin, which said it would temporarily freeze the account.
- The artist warned others to stay alert to avoid such losses.
Musician G. Love told his 41,000-plus followers this week that he was having money problems, after having lost his retirement savings in a scam.
"I had a really tough day today," he posted. "I lost my retirement fund in a hack/Scam when I switched my @Ledger over to my new computer and by accident downloaded a malicious ledger app from the @Apple store. All my BTC gone in an instant."
He later added, "This is either pathetic or funny and I feel both ways even say anything, but if anybody wants to help me re-up here's my BTC address 3KMbvNuTHRW8FkGo2gCrkbTEpfFNnTN8HH."

He explained that the amount had been accumulated over a decade.
G. Love, whose real name is Garrett Dutton, is 53. The musician was nominated for Grammy in 2021, in the category of Best Contemporary Blues Album, for* The Juice*.
After his call for help, G. Love received some offers.

X's ZachXBT, who describes themself as a "scam survivor turned 2D investigator" said that, after looking into it, the currency was laundered through cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin, who then told the artist that it was temporarily freezing the suspicious account.
G. Love told followers to be cautious with their own finances.

"It's just hard to get scammed," G. Love wrote. "F--k all yall haters that called me a liar. I been in the crypto circus since 2017. Today they caught me off guard. It was my own damn fault for not being more diligent. But let it serve as a warning. There's so many scams."
But he wasn't too down and out.
"Just to be clear my BTC got hacked nothing else. Sucks but I will carry on with my life," G. Love posted. "A lot of people lost a lot more than me. Give thanks for my health, family and friends and my music. I just performed @tortugafest and yall lifted me up Thankyou!"
