Designer Nicola Brognano made a name for himself as creative director of Blumarine from 2020 to 2024, revitalizing the Italian label founded in the late ’70s and reestablishing it as a touchstone for Y2K-era It girls. Now at the helm of denim brand 7 For All Mankind, he made his official runway debut in New York this week.

Brognano has a knack for distilling early-aughts nostalgia into something that feels intentional rather than ironic. His fall collection had the industry buzzing, serving up looks that could have been plucked straight from the tabloids of 2006.

Models strode down the runway in skinny jeans, pea coats, and babydoll dresses. T-shirts were layered, while shrunken denim and leather jackets were paired with column skirts cut with dramatic high-low hemlines. The accessories leaned fully into the throwback mood: mussed hair topped with Ray-Ban Wayfarers, glittering costume jewelry, and gargantuan handbags—sometimes carried two at a time. The looks were finished with sky-high platform stilettos, a silhouette largely absent from runways for more than a decade.

Ahead, we go behind the scenes of Brognano’s debut show as he walks us through the collection.

"The 7 For All Mankind girl of this collection is for sure Mary-Kate or Ashley Olsen around 2005, 2006. Or Kate Moss."

"I looked to the off-duty models around The Sartorialist street style era of the 2000s and 2010s. How they were photographed in runway beauty looks, but cool and real at the same time."

"We added the concert bracelet, because she's that girl."

"She runs around the city. She wears the same dress and makeup from the night before to work the next day. Maybe she's a model. She can wear whatever she wants, but she doesn't care."

"I want to represent this kind of attitude: rock and roll, hot, and feminine at the same time."

"Skinny jeans, for sure. It's time to bring them back. I'm sick of big, baggy pants."

"It's the right moment for the brand economically. So I think it's the right moment to do something very cool for fashion week to grab the attention of the new generation."
