Princess Margaret’s grandson, Sam Chatto, proposed to his girlfriend Eleanor Ekserdijan with a handmade porcelain engagement ring.
The artist couple announced the news in a joint Instagram post on July 13, 2026.

Another Royal wedding is on the horizon! Princess Margaret’s grandson Sam Chatto, popped the question to his longtime girlfriend, Eleanor Ekserdijan, after nearly five years together. The artist couple, who have been dating since 2021, announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post on July 13, 2026. Chatto proposed with a handmade porcelain ring he crafted himself, writing in the caption, “I’m really delighted to say that Ellie and I are engaged. And we couldn’t be happier. I proposed with a porcelain ring which I made.”
The engagement announcement featured a black-and-white carousel of three photos: a romantic portrait of the couple, a close-up of the handmade porcelain ring Chatto crafted for the proposal, and a personal photo booth photo. According to Tatler, King Chalres is “very happy” for the couple, and Buckingham Palace has said the wedding will take place “next spring.”
Flora Vesterberg, the granddaughter of Princess Alexandra, was among the first members of the royal family to publicly congratulate the couple, commenting, “Very happy for all of you” on the Instagram post.

The couple also share a creative life together in London, where they both work as artists. A ceramicist, Chatto specializes in porcelain after apprenticing under renowned porcelain master Yagi Akira in Kyoto. He later expanded his practice during a 2024 residency in Norway, where he experimented with combining local stoneware and porcelain clays. He frequently shares his ceramic work and creative process on Instagram.
Although the 29-year-old is not a working royal, he frequently attends major family events, including King Charles’s coronation, Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, and most recently, Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s wedding. Ekserdjian has often accompanied him to these occasions, signaling her growing presence alongside the royal family ahead of the couple’s own wedding next spring.
