"I never got to be me": Britney Spears opens up about motherhood and faith while blasting own parents in emotional message

Britney Spears opened up about motherhood, faith, and her complicated relationship with her family in a lengthy social media post Friday.

The pop star, 44, said she felt she had "failed as a mother" after one of her sons told her he does not believe in God. Britney Spears, who shares sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, with ex-husband Kevin Federline, said she still believes in a higher spiritual presence.

"My son told me last week it was all science he didn't personally believe in God ... In that moment I belive I have failed as a mother because I know there is a Holy Spirit that sits high in the kingdom of Heaven ... I've been there I've felt it."

Britney Spears also talked about another difficult time for herself concerning her parents and children. She claimed she learned about five years ago about her sons being taken to the beach without her knowledge by her divorced parents, Jamie Spears and Lynne Spears.

"The pictures I saw of my mom and dad in secret on the beach the whole summer with my children every weekend ... I wonder why I wasn't a part of their cool secret outings."

She felt that this particular experience left her feeling demoralized as she cried about it for two whole months. She also felt that she was being denied the freedom to live her life when she was young.

Britney Spears claims she was "brainwashed"

In her post, Britney Spears reflected on her childhood and rise to fame, saying she had once been passionate about life but felt she had been taken advantage of by people around her.

"I never got to be me, the real Spears ... I used to be unbelievably intelligent and 100 percent I was brainwashed into an ignorant system where every g*****n person took advantage of me."

At one point in her message, she wrote how different her life was when she used to perform.

"My intention and mindset were in a completely different place when I used to perform ... Not one time in those 15 years was it ever me and the way I use to think ... I was shamed, embarrassed, and forced to do all of it."

She also described herself in spiritual terms, writing that she believes she is an angel and expressing a desire to reconnect with her faith.

Britney Spears ended the message by saying she wants to share her perspective openly after feeling misunderstood for much of her life. She said she hopes to grow closer to God, reconnect with her spirituality and regain the sense of excitement she once felt.

The singer's reflections come years after the end of her 13-year conservatorship. The arrangement was terminated in November 2021 after she publicly challenged the restrictions placed on her personal and financial life.
