This year was a bit of a reset for the British royal family. In an interview with Eugene Levy on Appleâs The Reluctant Traveler, Prince William shared that last year was âthe hardest yearâ of his life. But after being diagnosed with an undisclosed cancer and completing chemotherapy treatment in 2024, Kate Middleton made her full return to work in 2025.
Further, King Charles made many more public appearances this year, although he was briefly hospitalized in March due to âtemporary side effectsâ from his own ongoing cancer treatment. After his initial diagnosis in February of last year, Buckingham Palace said they would not be sharing what type of cancer Charles has, only specifying it was not prostate cancer. But a palace aide said in May that the King was dealing âincredibly wellâ with cancer.
Princess Anne also made a personal comeback, riding horseback again at Trooping the Colour in June after sustaining a head injury the previous summer. It was reported earlier this year that the Princess Royalâs âaccident was so much worse than anyone let on and it took quite a while for her to feel herself again.â
Across the pond, Prince Harry and Meghan renewed their partnership with Netflix, inking a new multi-year first look deal in August. The Duchess of Sussex also saw the premiere of not one but two seasons of her lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, as well as the launch of her lifestyle brand, As Ever. The first eight products sold out nearly immediately when it launched at the beginning of April. As Ever later added a rosé wine, a holiday collection, and limited edition chocolates.
In September, Prince Harry also reunited with King Charles for their first in-person meeting in 19 months. The reunion lasted just under an hour at Charlesâs home, Clarence House, after which the Duke of Sussex headed to a previously scheduled engagement with his Invictus Games Foundation. It was the first time father and son had seen each other since February 2024.
There were also a few lows for the British royals, including the loss of Katharine, Duchess of Kent, who died at the age of 92.
Prince Andrewâs former friendship with Jeffrey Epstein also continued to make damaging headlines. His ex-wife Sarah Ferguson was dropped by charities in September after an email she is said to have sent to Epstein was made public. In October, King Charles began the process to formally remove his brother Andrewâs royal titles. The former Duke of York will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, and heâs moving from Royal Lodge to a private residence on the Sandringham estate.
In short, itâs been an eventful 12 months for the Windsors. Here, see the most memorable royal photos of 2025:
