- *The Night Manager *returns for a second season nearly a decade after its acclaimed debut.
- New cast members include Diego Calva and Camila Morrone.
- The first three episodes of season 2 hit Amazon Prime Video on Sunday, Jan. 11.
It's been nearly a decade since *The Night Manager* ensnared viewers in its sticky web of arms dealers, secret agents, and dodgy bureaucrats. The spy drama won various awards, including three Golden Globes for stars Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, and Olivia Colman, as well as an Emmy for director Susanne Bier.
Based on John le Carré's 1993 novel, the six-part season unspooled the knotty tale of Jonathan Pine (Hiddleston), a former soldier and hotel night manager tasked with taking down a powerful arms dealer named Richard Roper (Laurie). By season's end, Pine and his boss, Angela Burr (Colman), succeeded in bringing Roper down, with the finale suggesting Roper's violent end at the hands of his own buyers.
Though it was a satisfying (if oddly cheery) finale, fans still speculated about the show's potential return. It looked unlikely, what with Hiddleston and Colman's rising stock as film stars. But in April 2024, the BBC and Prime Video confirmed that *The Night Manager* would return for not just one, but *two* more seasons.
With its return imminent, here's everything to know about *The Night Manager *season 2, including the story, release date, and new cast members.
What is *The Night Manager *season 2 about?

*The Night Manager* season 2 takes the action beyond the pages of le Carré's novel. That may worry some fans, but, as writer David Farr told the *Guardian*, le Carré had "given his blessing to a second season" before his death in 2020.
Season 2 picks up eight years after the first season, and the world is *very *different. Roper is dead, and Pine has been keeping a low profile under the alias Alex Goodwin.
According to the official synopsis, Pine "thought he'd buried his past," but a "chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads Pine to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva)."

It continues, "On this perilous new journey, Pine meets Roxana Bolaños (Camila Morrone), a businesswoman who reluctantly helps him infiltrate Teddy's Colombian arms operation. Once in Colombia, Pine is plunged deep into a deadly plot involving arms and training of a guerrilla army. As allegiances splinter, Pine races to expose a conspiracy designed to destabilize a nation. And with betrayal at every turn, he must decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he’s willing to go before it's too late."
Speaking with the *Guardian*, Hiddleston said season 2 will take viewers "on a rollercoaster ride." He added, "Pine puts himself in extraordinary danger. We watch him risk, sacrifice, seduce, and betray to unravel the mystery. I hope audiences will be thrilled by the chase."
Is there a* Night Manager *season 2 trailer?
Amazon Prime Video dropped the official trailer for *The Night Manager* season 2 on Thursday, Dec. 11, and it promises higher stakes and bigger action.
It opens with Angela Burr confirming Roper's death, noting that there will be no record of it and that he'll "remain a missing person." As for Pine? Well, in Burr's words, he'll "be no more."
The trailer hints that Pine's life has been rather quiet in the intervening years, but that's about to change. He's back in the field and going after Teddy, a new arms dealer who calls himself "Richard Roper's true disciple."
Teddy is smuggling weapons into Colombia, and Pine suspects British intelligence might be helping him. This gives Pine the chance to sneak in as their "snake in their garden."
Along the way, Pine teams up with Colombian businesswoman Roxana, who is seemingly close to Teddy. The footage even suggests some tension (and maybe even a love triangle) between the three.
Burr is also shown with Pine, who accuses her of lying to him. She fires back, "I had no choice. I saw a chance to nail the London investors, the politicians, the whole rotten bunch."
The preview wraps up with some high-octane action: Pine in a motorcycle chase, a fight with Teddy, and a hotel explosion.

Much of the original main cast is returning for *The Night Manager *season 2, including Hiddleston (Pine), Colman (Burrs), Noah Jupe (Danny), Alistair Petrie (Sandy), Douglas Hodge (Rex), and Michael Nardone (Frisky).
Hiddleston recently told the BBC he felt there was "unfinished business" with Pine. "I found making the first series incredibly fulfilling, I found it really stimulating," he said. "The old dragon-slayer in Pine is reactivated [in season 2]. There is a strain of something he recognizes, and that impels him to Colombia, into another dance with danger."
