The 2026-27 high school football season is less than two months from kicking off in the Yellowhammer State. Alabama is known as one of the premier states when it comes to prep football, as the state breathes the sport in support of Alabama and Auburn at the college level.

First practice date: Aug. 3, 2026
Date of first games: Aug. 20, 2026

High school football practices for teams competing within the AHSAA get underway on Aug. 3, 2026, with the date of the first games set for Aug. 27.
Teams that elect to participate in preseason kickoffs are permitted to do so in "Week 0" of the season, or during the week of Aug. 20.
