The Washington Wizards have shut down Cam Whitmore for the remainder of the season as he continues to recover from deep vein thrombosis.

The Wizards said the 21-year-old forward has begun a recovery process for his venous condition, initially revealed Dec. 23 to be an upper-extremity DVT.

Whitmore had missed games with right shoulder soreness during December before his condition was diagnosed.

Washington applied for a disabled player exception due to Whitmore's absence, HoopsHype reported.

Whitmore came to the Wizards in July as part of a three-team trade in which Washington acquired guard CJ McCollum, center/forward Kelly Olynyk and Whitmore from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for guard Jordan Poole, forward Saddiq Bay and the draft rights to guard Micah Peavy, along with sending two second-round draft picks to the Houston Rockets.

The Rockets selected him 20th overall in the 2023 draft.

He averaged 9.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 16.9 minutes through 21 games this season.

Whitmore is part of a growing list of NBA players to be diagnosed with the condition, in which blood clots form in one or more of the deep veins in the body. Damian Lillard and Victor Wembanyama have dealt with the condition in the past year.
